Writing as a Meditation ~ Day 19

Today is the day!!! We celebrate one of my special achievements! Creating a space where women could find their voice and write their stories!!! Come celebrate the 8th Annual Anniversary of the NYC Latina Writers Group!

Writing as a Meditation ~ Day 19 On transparency and Finding Your Force!

see through you

As I wake up this morning I am thinking about my keynote address this week. The honor it is to be invited to speak at Hofstra and gift students with some advice… sharing with them a little of what I have received or wish I had been told when I was in college. My hope is to be as transparent as possible as I share my personal experiences of how I came to discover who I really am. I will take them through the moments that led to and what happened after I left my job at Bacardi and BusinessWeek, and all I gained from traveling to 18 countries. I will talk about the decision to publish my first book.

Sometimes we just need reminders of who we are and all that it took/takes to get here. Every day it requires consistency. At least one step toward the dream. Making one move. Meeting that one person in some unexpected place. Really paying attention to the people who show up to help you. This idea of paying attention to the signs. Being open to where we are guided. How many of us have picked jobs or a direction in life that has been chosen for us? How many of us have a dream that we fear may be frivolous and not accepted by those we love? How many of have felt the disapproval of our families and the people that surround us day to day?

Doing the unacceptable… being the ATREVIDA!

Not being accepted by those we love is a very real fear… its one of the reasons I didn’t want to write my memoir and at the same time was the precisely the reason I had to write it. I was not going to be able to write another thing until I completed Finding Your Force: A Journey. This idea of FINDING something… searching of something… dreaming of something and constantly being asked if I finally FOUND it? I have had many moments of discovery and amazing truths revealed but the truth is the “journey” never stops. I will always be moving towards “Finding MY Force!”

My intention for today is to create. My intention is to spend time on my keynote, to read and to get ready for tonight’s festivities. Today is the gathering and celebration of the 8th Anniversary of the NYC Latina Writers Group. I am so very excited to see all the women I have not seen in such a long time. I am excited to see new people. I am over the moon excited for today and so I will handle this day with great care and ease… I will breathe and enjoy every moment.

And so it is.

Have a beautiful day!

Love,
Alicia

Today’s Prompts:

As I wake up this morning… (Set timer for 5 minutes)
Sometimes we just need reminders… (Set timer for 5 minutes)
Not being accepted by… (Set timer for 5 minutes)
My intention for today… (Set timer for 5 minutes)

Breathe~

10 minute: Brainstorm/Freewrite: What are the facts? In this exercise we are exploring what the facts of the final/ending section of your story… the scenes that complete the story. Think about all the facts, the details that must be included to arrive to the end.

Breathe… stretch…

30 minute writing session: Now pick (3) of those facts. Set your timer for ten minutes each fact… start flushing those facts out… those scenes. Take us there! BEGIN!
