Day 12 of Agent Search:
Dear Agent;
What an amazingly productive Monday morning!
I have already written six pages and started two new scenes. I’ve completed half of my to do list and am feeling pretty damn good about myself.
This weekend I started the Pomodoro method and I must say that working within the time frame I’ve allotted for myself, I am finding that I can get so much done.
How it works:
I begin with my calendar. I plan the day and list the items in the order I think makes sense for me to tackle. I plan out the entire day.
IE:
Planning
Yoga, Prayer & Meditation
Romeo & Juliet adaptation lesson plan
Check in / out with my writer’s group
blog
read
write parsley
read scripts
screenwriting class
Then in my journal I give each item on my list a time slot:
11:35am – 12:00pm YOGA
12:00pm – 12:05pm Break
12:05pm – 12:30pm SCREENWRITING CLASS
12:30pm – 12:35pm Break
12:35pm – 1:00pm PARSLEY
1:00pm – 1:05pm Break
and so on…
The technique works within 25 minute intervals. 25 minutes of focused work and 5 minute break in between each item/task. You keep going in this way.
I can’t say that I have mastered the technique since the evenings seem to get away from me and I would like to get more writing time in. But what I have experienced is that I am getting more done with the actual time I do have.
Items completed today:
Yoga, meditation, prayers, screenwriting class, blog, 6 pages of parsley all done within a three hour window. (this includes a printer issue that came up, breakfast and lunch, plus getting ready for work.)
I share this technique because I want you to know how good feels to plan… to not only have a plan, but see yourself actually getting things checked off the list.
Writing goals for February — first 50 pages of Parsley and first/last 10 pages of screenplay.
I WORK! I WRITE! I STAY WITH IT! EVERYDAY I WRITE! AND I AM REMEMBERING TO SLOW DOWN!
Writing Prompt:
(1) She told me about the time… (Ask of your story, character, scenes, symbols or themes every question you would ask about their motivation and intention. What do we want to say?) Set timer for (1 hour)
Check in later. Happy writing! Wishing you all an amazing day!
With love,
