Day 17 of Agent Search:
Dear Agent;
READ THE GUIDELINES! PROTOCOLS ARE IN PLACE FOR A REASON!
As a writer who works hard to see her work published in the world, I have a new found respect for the validity of those words and those who read MY WORK. Read the guidelines.
When the guidelines say:
“Remove names from all pages in submission!”
“Page count max not exceed 10 pages!”
“Number your pages, times new roman, size 12 font, double spaces, 1″ margins!”
Please don’t trying to make your page settings “.8” and your font size “11”…
And please don’t leave your name on the title page! This is an automatic disqualification!
After serving as a juror for a prestigious literary award, the entire process really affected me. I started to think about the work I have submitted and where I might have been disqualified if I hadn’t paid attention to the guidelines. I have a deeper understanding of what is expected of me as I continue to have my own work considered for awards!
AM I FOLLOWING THE GUIDELINES? Making a checklist before hitting send is at the top of my list of things to remember.
Writing goals for today — create list of literary awards and magazines I would like to submit to.
I WORK! I WRITE! I STAY WITH IT! EVERYDAY I WRITE! AND I AM REMEMBERING TO SLOW DOWN!
Writing Prompt:
(1) If I wasn’t afraid of rejection the story I would write… (Ask of your story, character, scenes, symbols or themes every question you would ask about their motivation and intention. What do we want to say?) Set timer for (1 hour)
Check in later. Happy writing! Wishing you all an amazing day!
With love,
