Born Sueli Carneiro Jacoel in São Paulo, Brazil. Dr. Carneiro has dedicated her life to fighting for the rights of black women! In 1992, she and many Afrolatina and Afrocaribbean Women leaders met for the first time at The Conference of Black Latin American and Caribbean Women which was held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It was here that the Red de Mujeres Afrolatinoamericanas (Network of Afrolatinamerican Women) was founded. Sueli founded GELEDÉS in 1988. Her organization is dedicated to defending the rights of black women, and all WOC who are discriminated against, women with limited access, women who constantly deal with xenophobia, violence, abuse, inequality, sexism and homophobia. She is a champion of human rights and is a black feminist! She is considered one of the mother’s of black feminism in Brazil. *** @portalgeledes
