REGISTRATION OPEN: Sankofa Sisterhood turns five!

We are overjoyed to organize the 5th Annual Sankofa Sisterhood Writers Retreat to be held once again in the Catskill Mountains, NY

This year’s theme is:

The Writer’s Journey for Survival:

Connecting to Wellness and Moving Towards Wholeness

May 24 – May 27, 2019

This past year has been filled with constant aggression towards women of color through public and personal attacks. Our society would rather have us stay silent, docile and complacent. But WOC writers have always been at the helm of advocating for our communities by being therapists for family members, friends and our students, while at the same time attempting to find balance and self-care for ourselves. Some of us are navigating all that life throws at us and are expected to handle it with grace. It can be hard sometimes to put on that superhero mask when you are dealing with loss, trauma or daily microaggressions. Some of us feel mentally and spiritually drained and some days we don’t even have the energy to lift the pen.

This is why the Sankofa Sisterhood Writers Retreat was born. This is a weekend designed with you in mind. The workshops we are bringing this year are intentionally focused on supporting you in reinforcing your arsenal for survival. Join us for a beautiful weekend of sisterhood while discovering new ways towards wholeness and wellness. The Sankofa Sisterhood is a WWOC centered space where we can find strength in vulnerability, joy and community.

Every year we have a keynote speaker, writing workshops and personal writing time; this year we are adding fun to the agenda. We will dance, meditate, hike and commune and move in nature, surrounded by women writers of color. There is no better way to pamper ourselves. Once again we have the amazing Ysanet Batista of WOKE FOODS, who will provide us with “mindful eating and ancestral foods”  that will keep us in a healthy creative flow.

The Sankofa Sisterhood Writers Retreat is a safe space for women of color writers where we put our writing and ourselves first. Put yourself first and register. Spaces are limited.
