The series was initiated in 2010 to celebrate queer strength and value, to take a stand against violence, and to counter negative and victimized images of queer people in the media from homophobic attacks in the Bronx and New York City. The series presents narrative films that are empowering to the LGBTQ community that feature queer, people of color as the lead protagonists and events that celebrate queer strength and value.

Rise Up and Dance: V-Day One Billion Rising
To cap the Get Tough, Get BAAD! film series, on Sunday, February 14 at 7pm we present RISE UP AND DANCE: V-DAY ONE BILLION RISING. One Billion Rising was created by Eve Ensler as a global event where one billion women, transwomen and those who love them dance, rise up, and demand an end to violence. BAAD!’s community “love-in” and dance begins at 7pm with a potluck dinner, followed by an open speak out against violence, a reading of Eve Enlser’s “Rising,” and then the music turns up and everyone is invited to dance. It’ll be a time to commune with one another and hopefully a time to rejuvenate and rejoice.
